Dear Birds, Humans and, of course, any elephants reading this column,
Tough month.....I got a message 2 days ago that our scheduled speaker, Kathy Stevens, fell and broke her coccyx. It is not easy to find a new speaker on such short notice, but I am trying. If, by the time we have our meeting, I have been successful and have found a pinch hitter for the night, then good for me and good for us. If I haven’t, then I shall pull my teacher’s hat out of the moth balls, and give our meeting my best shot for something interesting, entertaining and educational. I am hoping to reschedule Kathy for October because Stu Salanger won’t be able to make it.......hopefully, she will be well enough to talk about her animal sanctuary at that time.
There were several bird adoptions this month. I hope that all of my placements were prudent and all the birds and their new human companions will be happy together.
No exciting bird stories this month from my home front, except that Emma doesn’t seem to want to go on my hand and play with me. He loves to run around the elephant room and do his own thing, but his own thing is very destructive and he needs constant supervision. So, I sit on the couch in there and read while he plays and I stop him from climbing up on the piano and throwing things off while he listens to the gleeful sound of statues and pictures dropping on the floor. The sight and crunchy sound and of mangled picture frames seen to please him as well.
I haven’t heard from that wonderful woman who has the chattering lory and the bad neighbor. Like I have told everyone before, we got a most phenomenal humane lawyer to get involved in the situation and I think things are working out. The lawyer is club member Linda Niedweske who just happens to be my very special cousin.
Aristophanes is busily taking a sponge bath in his water. Later I shall take him in the shower with me and wet him down really thoroughly, he loves that and it is so good for him. I wish Emma would come to me so I could take him in to the shower too. He won’t come now but I am sure he will when he is ready.
We have several programs lined up, even though we have had some changes. Don’t forget to show up at next month’s meeting were Lori Rothberg will give a hands on workshop on making bird toys. All supplies will be provided. We can make some great stuff to take home. We have to get started working on the big show in October. Please see Little Matthew B. and find out how you can offer the most help.
I wish everyone the best of health and good times
Love,
Richie.
