January 2020
Dear Humans, Birds and Elephants,
HAPPY NEW YEAR AND HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY JACKIE, WHO IS A NEW YEAR'S BABY.
We were in London for the holiday week of Chanukah and Christmas. It was interesting but the day
before and after Christmas as well as on Christmas day itself, everything is closed. We had to
make out own way and we did. Jackie and my older grandson, Matthew, had the best time shopping.
Elijah, my younger grandson and I, not so much. We are not shoppers and there is just so much we
can take. Arielle, my daughter was okay as long as her sons were happy. The best part of all of
it was meeting with some wonderful elephant people. We hung out with Duncan McNair, the founder of
Save the Asian Elephant and Evelyn Connor, the Treasurer and mother of the founder of Boon Lott's
Elephant Sanctuary in Thailand. That was a great elephant filled evening. Keep me around people
who devote their lives to saving elephants and I am happy boy.
When we came home, after being gone for a week, all the animals had their individual reactions. My
dogs, Opie and Edison, were all over us and very happy. My cats, Margarita, Simon and Montgomery,
were clingy and excited too. My birds, not so much. Aristophanes loves the young woman who stays
in the house while we are gone and wanted her to stay on instead of me and Emma bit me. Now things
are more back to normal. Aristophanes is better, but Emma, not so much. I don't understand what
is happening with that bird and I am employing the services of Glen Sorino, the parrot whisperer,
to see if I can make things better. Emma needs more of the life he used to have, but I can't give
it to him if he won't go on my hand any more and goes to bite me HARD if I push the issue. I will
keep anyone, who is interested, posted if I have any luck with this. I hope Glen can help.
WE NEED SPEAKERS. Please forward ideas to me or Pat or Matt for more programs. I keep saying that
I have no shame and I will contact anyone you think might be an interesting speaker. Just give me
the contact information.
It is snowing a bit here and the dogs keep wanting to run in and out. It would behoove me to have
a doggie door, but I can't because of the cats. They cannot go out as I live by a well traveled
road and I don't want to scoop up dead cat bodies. I tried to find one of those doggie doors that
are controlled by the dog's collar, but I can't find one big enough for Opie.
Have a very happy new year and let's hope this year is better than last and that we are all still
alive and here next year as well. Recent happenings are very frightening. Remember to vote in
November.
LOVE,
Richie
