December 2015
Dear Elephants, Birds and Humans,
Happy Holidays to everyone who celebrates them and to everyone who does not. It looks so bleak and barren outside. Everything is brown and dull. I look forward to the falling snow, big flakes in the still, cold air, with a white blanket on the ground, white covers on the evergreen trees and high snow drifts. I have never been one of those people who looks to run to the south, in the winter, where it never snows. I love watching the winter birds as they forage through the white earth to find their sustenance and I have a bird feeder attached to my window, incase they are still hungry, so I can see them all the time.
Tonight should be fun. We have our wonderful winter holiday party to which everyone brings some great food to share and then win prizes at our penny social. I hope there are lots of birds at the party this year to enjoy the evening with us. I would bring my birds but I don't think they would have a good time. Some birds are more comfortable in unfamiliar surroundings. Maybe Zeke; I have to think about it.
Aristophanes has been enjoying a long hiatus from his sinus allergy attacks. I was building hope that maybe they were gone; his cere looked so good and healthy. But, then last night they returned with a vengeance and he suffered though some terrible bouts of sneezing. Today he seems fine again. It doesn't matter what species you are, allergies suck.
We have been announcing adoption birds, something we rarely do because we don't want to place them in multibird homes and that is what we seem to get when we let people know we have birds that need re-homing. I want the birds to get as much attention as possible and that is difficult when we have lots of parrots in our homes. We are accepting applications for these birds and will do our best to find the best loving, forever homes possible, where people have lots of time to spend with them. See Pat or me if you are interested.
Our January meeting should be very interesting. We have a woman coming who has studied Amazon parrots in the wild and wrote a book about birds. February and March will bring us a program on eagles and an evening with recipes to make at home and feed to the birds you love.
Please hit me up with ideas for more meetings and programs.
Have the best holiday and new year.
Love,
Richie
