Dear Elephants, Birds and Literate Humans,
Oh, the problems with which we have to deal when it comes to our pets. The problems that often make us wonder if it is all worth it. Right now I have a macaw, Aristophanes, who absolutely hates my guts and wants to kill me. I no longer can go near him without him trying to grab me and "bite me to death" . I have to feed and water him in a manner so that he cannot hurt me..........not fun. It started about a week ago when I had to take a plastic ring, from a bird toy, off his head. He had gotten it around his neck and I was afraid that he would choke himself by catching it on something, so it had to be removed. I tried to get him to hold still so I could take the ring off his neck, but he became frightened and aggressive. I had to resort to toweling him because the ring had to go. Right after I did that I became his enemy. I can no longer handle him and doing his everyday routine has become a formidable chore. I am hoping that little by little we can get back together to, at least, the way we were. Aristophanes never loved me, not the way that Sammy loves Debbie or the way some other parrots, I have known, loved their people. He did tolerate me for the most part and we even shared some really nice times together. I hope we can get back to that.
Emma is doing okay and Zeke, who reluctantly has to spend more time in his cage since Edison has come to live with us, is doing fine also.
I am very excited about our up coming 30th anniversary party, meeting, dinner...whatever you want to call it. We have never used the Eagle's Nest before and I think this should be a very exciting and fun filled evening for all of us. If you have not yet signed up for it, please do so. The price is still $40 per person. Please let Matt or Pat or Mark or me know that you will be attending. Don't miss this; it should be our biggest party ever. Also, start looking for good stuff to donate for the silent auction.
We will be having our Pet Bird Show in October, the final details are still being worked out. Let Matt know if you have any ideas or want to work with him in producing it.
Our speaker tonight is Riley Miller from the Petco Store in Middletown. Riley will be talking about how they prepare people, who buy birds in the store, to have a pet bird. She will discuss what is entailed and what is needed from parakeets on up. She will also field any questions you might have.
We have our presentation about Parrots as Pets, at the Monticello Library on the evening of June 22nd. Please join me there and bring any birds who would have a good time in public. All of you are invited to speak about your bird or pet birds in general.
I am still looking for more programs. Don't hesitate to bombard me with ideas and suggestions.
Be well, I have to go out to feed my chickens their breakfast of pasta and kale.
I have lots of cats and kittens for adoption, please let me know if you can open your home and heart to one or more.
Love,
Richie
