May 2013
Dear birds, elephants and humans who can read,
I cannot be at this fascinating meeting this month so please be kind and take care of Little Matthew B who will be running tonight's program.
Actually we are going to visit a macaw that was adopted out a few years ago and ended up, inadvertently, in what should be a wonderful home. We have all our bird adopters sign a contract for the benefit of the birds because the last thing we want to see is a parrot going from home to home. That can be, and usually is, emotionally devastating to the bird.
In this case, I believe the bird has a really good and permanent home.
Aristophanes, Emma and Zeke, along with my dog , cats and chickens are being tended to my house sitter who used to be one of my students. You can imagine how much I trust him to leave him with my animal family.
I want to tell everyone about our upcoming 27th anniversary dinner and program. It will, once again be held in Mr. Willis restaurant in Monticello. We have a private, beautiful room as well as a lovely dinner with several entree choices. On top of that we will have our silent auction for which we appreciate all donations...please be aware that, this is not a penny social so the donations should be of the quality that will make people want to bid. Now for our program: Our program for this propitious occasion will be Michael, Kili and Truman. Please check the emails, I have sent you, from the Connecticut Bird Club to see this exciting man and his wonderfully trained birds. You can find him on YouTube. Michael has been on television with Kili, a Senegal parrot and Truman, a Cape parrot, and now they are coming to The Catskill Exotic Bird Club. The price of the dinner and everything this year will be $35. It is slightly higher than in years past to offset the cost of the program. I can't think of many bird clubs who have been in existence and do the good work that we have done for 27 years. We have much for which we should be proud and to celebrate.
Next month we have another parrot rescue and sanctuary coming to us as our guest speaker and for August we will have a wildlife rehab referral group with a strong humane direction. Once again I ask for people or places you would like to see as presenters. Just give me the contact and I will call them. To quote Matt, "Nobody is safe from me".
Have a wonderful meeting.
With Love,
RICHIE
