Dear Elephants, Birds and Humans who can read,
Having a diseased liver gives a great deal of pain whether you are a human or a duck. Force feeding a duck to produce an enlarged or damaged liver to make foie Gras, an expensive food product that puts big money in the producer's pocket, without any concern for the animals involved, is cruel and disgusting. California was right to have banned it and hopefully other states will follow its example. Of course we can always rationalize someone's or something else's pain when we are getting what we want. That farm can raise ducks for food, hopefully allowing them to live more normal lives without forced fed enlarged livers. We are a humane organization.
Right now Jackie and I are in Israel so Little Matthew B will be running our meeting which should be a very interesting parrot related video and discussion. Somebody should slap him if he gets too uppity. It has not been easy getting programs lately but believe me I keep on trying. I am constantly trying to keep in touch with the new curator of ornithology of the Bronx Zoo. This has become a daunting task. He should either be here next month or for our 29th anniversary meeting in July. We also have Carol Cipriano from The Parrot Lover's Cruise. I will let you know more as things enfold.
Aristophanes, Emma and Zeke, along with the chickens, Opie and my cats are being babysat by a wonderful young woman named Natasa. She lives in our house when we go away. My sweet, very old dog Lola left us a few weeks ago when her life more longer had any quality and we had to make a very difficult decision that was in her best interest. She was 17 1/2 years old, a long life for a dog, but we loved her so much and miss her terribly.
Have a great meeting and always remember to be kind to all animals. See you in June.
LOVE,
RICHIE
