September 2015

Dear Elephants, Birds and Humans,

Thank you to everyone who has shown such kindness and caring to Jackie and me during this horrible time in our lives.  Our daughter, Shannon, was (I can't believe I said "was") the most beautiful, delightful, joyful, happy, kind, wonderful human being who touched so many lives with her goodness and her exciting and ebullient nature.  She made so many people happy and added so much to this world.  She got sick, very suddenly, and was taken from us one and on half weeks later, right after her doctors said she was doing amazingly well and would be fine.  My thoughts are of her and her sweetness all day and all night.  Life goes on, but this is against nature.  No parent should have to bury their child.

My birds are fine and we have several really exciting programs coming up.  We will be making bird toys for ourselves and to offer on our raffle table at our big pet bird show next month. That will be the program at our October meeting.   Matt will tell you all about the bird show, what is involved and what you can do to help.  We need birds for the judging part....Please enter all your beautiful, healthy birds.  The judging is holistic and is a major educational component of the show.  The more birds and bird species that are entered, the more we can teach people about them and that is what our show is all about.  We advocate humane bird ownership and non impulse and non ignorant purchases and adoption.  It is our job, as people who know, to educate the people who come to our show.

Tonight, our program is an animal communicator who was also a wild life rehabber for birds in New York City.  Her name is Brenda Seldin and her talk should be very interesting.  I apologize for not getting the postcard information to Pat on time, but I was mixed up this month and I thought that our meeting was next week.

I wish all our Jewish club members a happy and healthy new year.

Take care of yourselves and the people and animals you love.
